Interim Agreement for Peace and Self-Government in Kosovo (Rambouillet Accords)*

This agreement aims to end the violence in Kosovo and facilitate the return of refugees and displaced persons. It also calls for the adoption of a new constitution for Kosovo that respects the territorial integrity of the Former Republic of Yugoslavia while simultaneously establishing the principles of democratic self-government for three years until final status of Kosovo is determined. This agreement was not signed however has been given effect by Security Council Resolution 1244.

Lahore Declaration

This agreement provides the framework for peaceful relations between the parties whereby all issues including the issue of Jammu and Kashmir would be resolved by peaceful means. Towards this end, the parties agreed to strengthen dialogue processes, take immediate steps to reduce the risk of accidental or unauthorised use of nuclear weapons, to elaborate confidence building measures and to strengthen the regional organisation of SAARC. 

Joint Statement between the Governments of India and Pakistan

This agreement provides the framework for the normalisation of relations between the parties. The parties agreed to hold future talks to address nuclear, economic and immigration issues. They also agreed to establish a two member committee to examine humanitarian issues including the civilian detainees and missing prisoners of war.  

Memorandum of Understanding between the Governments of India and Pakistan

This agreement provides the framework for implementing the Lahore declarations of 1999 on nuclear issues. The Parties agreed to establish secure communications procedures, to inform each other in the event of ballistic missile flight tests, to undertake measures to prevent the accidental or unauthorised use of nuclear weapons and to halt further testing of nuclear weapons. The parties also agreed to hold future talks on security, disarmament and non-proliferation issues.
